We are glad you stopped to visit our park. Let us tell you a little about our facility.
Hocking College purchased Lake Snowden from Le-Ax Water District in 1998. The acquisition of this property compliments the College's natural resource programs and allows them to continue to distinguish themselves as national leaders. Lake Snowden is a crown jewel that will enable further excellence in fish management and aquaculture as well as continued enjoyment by the public.
Lake Snowden was built for the Margaret Creek Conservancy District in 1968 with federal funds through the Farmer's Home Administration and the Soil Conservation Service. It is the largest of four lakes built in an effort to control flooding and form the Margaret Creek Conservancy District.
Lake Snowden opened to the public in 1972. The park consists of six hundred fifty-one acres including the lake which covers approximately 136 acres.
