Military & Veterans' Appreciation Day
The Hocking College SVA is hosting this event to display military culture and teamwork that makes military units cohesive and effective. Military members, veterans and their families are encouraged to attend and invited to join the SVA chapter. The community is also invited to attend to support the activities of the SVA.
Military units will be present with equipment on display and recruiters will provide “games of skill” for attendees to demonstrate their abilities. Local service organizations, such as AMVETS, VFW and the American Legion, have been invited to attend and host a display about their organization, their services to veterans and to actively recruit military members and veterans. Firearm, clothing and food vendors have also been invited to sell their products.
Information will be provided on the statewide Patriot Games in Delaware, Ohio, July 5 – 8, 2012. Hocking College will announce the events and recruit military veterans and reservists as team members. This friendly athletic competition between dozens of Ohio colleges and universities includes flag football, softball, golf, marksmanship, track and field events and more.
The event will also mark the start of the first annual “Our Military Gives Back by Leading the Community (Pay it Forward event),” a children’s winter coat and Christmas toy drive for needy children in the local Hocking College area.
The SVA is also extending an invitation to join Hocking College President Dr. Ron Erickson on November 11, 2011, who will be riding in a wagon in the Athens County Veterans Day Parade in Athens. Students who would like to participate can register at the event.
